A Botanic Garden for Houston

The Time is Now

Who We Are

The Houston Botanic Garden is a privately operated 501(c)(3) organization created by individuals committed to the conservation and cultivation of plants with the goal of designing, constructing, and operating a botanic garden in Houston, Texas.

Now that we have secured a site, the Board of Directors is prepared to commence a capital campaign to fund the planning, design and construction of the Botanic Garden.

Let's Grow Something

Great for Houston

To establish and sustain a premier botanic garden in order to promote public appreciation and understanding of plants, gardens, and conservation of the natural world through education, conservation, and scientific inquiry.

We will enrich people’s lives through outstanding displays and programs, serve as a model for sustainability, and inspire all who visit to become environmental stewards as they learn more about plants and the entire natural world. In the fourth largest metropolitan area in the country, our Botanic Garden will be a place of great beauty providing an oasis for quiet contemplation, learning, inspiration, and research.

Our News

The HBG has a contract with the City of Houston on a long term lease of the Glenbrook Golf Course site for the location of the Botanic Garden. Glenbrook is located on the path from Downtown to Hobby Airport, and future access to the site would likely be from the Broadway/Park Place exit from IH45. The site is bisected by Sims Bayou and the north portion of the site is actually an island bounded by the old meander of Sims Bayou and the new channel built in the late 1980’s.
